ABU DHABI: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Faisal Niaz Tirmizi was warmly received by Mohamed Al Hammadi, Director-General of Emirates News Agency (WAM), at the agency’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

The meeting marked another step forward in the growing partnership between the two nations, with a particular focus on media collaboration and cultural exchange.

Officials from both sides engaged in meaningful discussions to build upon the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between WAM and the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP).

Expanding media ties

The discussions explored a roadmap to expand news and content sharing between the two national agencies, paving the way for timely, authentic, and wider coverage of developments in both countries.

The meeting reaffirmed the importance of leveraging media platforms to shape constructive narratives and reinforce shared values.

Beyond media exchange, the dialogue also emphasised promoting tourism and the diverse cultural heritage of both nations to foster greater people-to-people connectivity.

WAM, established in November 1976, operates as the official news agency of the UAE. It began Arabic language services in June 1977, followed by an English service in December 1978, pioneered by British journalist Peter Hellyer. WAM is headquartered in Abu Dhabi and operates under the National Media Council, playing a key role in disseminating official news within the country and across the globe.

With international bureaux in locations including Cairo, Brussels, Washington, Beirut, and Islamabad, WAM maintains extensive partnerships with global news agencies. These include Xinhua (China), Bernama (Malaysia), Petra (Jordan), and Anadolu Agency (Turkey), among others. WAM also launched its Hebrew language service in April 2021 to broaden its audience reach.
